STEAMER ADELAIDE PASSING FORT HENRY

The painting shows a pilot boat and paddle  wheel steamer on the Chesapeake with Fort McHenry in the background.  Adelaid  was chartered by the US Navy and is pictured carrying federal troops to  Baltimore during the American Civil War.  It was during the bombardment of  this Fort McHenry in 1814 that Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the   “Star Spangled Banner”
