Location: North Gallery

Built in Coos Bay, Oregon circa 1868, the schooner Louisa Morrison was registered out of San Francisco through 1878.  She was rated at 95 tons and her San Francisco Registry Number was 15522.

Louisa Morrison was used extensively as an oyster transporter from the Northwest to the San Francisco area.  Earlier, in 1868, she was used to transport coal and lumber between Coos Bay, Umpqua River and San Francisco.
Her last voyage was marked by her departure from San Francisco for Wilmington and Mazatlan, owned at that time by “Bowen”, captained by “Taylor” on her last voyage beginning 5/8/ 1878.  She never arrived.
The above information was derived from family records of Austin Keegan whose father and grandfather were sea captains out of San Francisco and from Lewis and Dryden’s “Marine History of the Pacific Northwest”.
