 The Ship

Built in 1850 by the William H. Webb shipyard, New York.
Dimensions:  228 X 40 X 22 feet.  Primarily sailed the triangle route, New York, San Francisco, China coast, New York.

Burned and sank in 1865.  Eighty passengers and crew lost.  Eighteen saved.

 

The Model

Plank on frame construction.  Port side planking left open so the rib construction can be seen.  Copper sheathing on the starboard side prevented weed growth and teredo worm damage below the water line.
