A vessel is a full-rigged 3 Steel massed, steel hull with an overall length of 331 feet and a maximum width of 51 ft. She has a draw of about 23 ft and displacement at full load of 4146 tons. Under auxiliary diesel electric propulsion the Amerigo Vespucci can reach 10 knots. The Amerigo Vespucci has 26 sails – square sails, staysales and jibs; all of which are traditional canvas sales. The rig, with some 30km of rope uses only traditional hemp ropes; only the mooring lines are synthetic, to comply with the port regulations. The ship has a hull that is painted black and with two white stripes referencing the two gun decks of the ships her design is based on, however she carries only two six pounder saluting guns. The deck planks are of teak wood, which must be replaced every 3 years and she is adorned with life-size figure of navigator Amerigo Vespucci.
